Born September 21, 1938 in Oregon City, Oregon to Walter and Gertrude Bernklau, Rodney was the eldest of four children. All four siblings grew up on their "Pharm" on Elisha Road in the Macksburg area. Rodney graduated from Canby High School in 1956 and first attended college at Willamette University. After two years at Willamette, he transferred to the University of California, Berkeley, and earned his BA degree in Business Administration. Early career opportunities included working as a business sales representative for IBM in California and Hawaii, followed by production work at a TV studio in California. Rodney returned to Oregon in 1972 and worked as a Media Center Assistant at Portland Community College for 30 years before retiring. Rodney was able to acquire the family Pharm after his parents passed away and made his home there for many years. He had a lifelong love of music, expressed extensively through his piano playing. Rodney was a faithful Christian, serving an active role at Macksburg Lutheran Church for many years. During this year of COVID, he also attended their Zoom coffee hour. Following major spine surgery in 2010, he was able to recover and live independently for ten more years on his beloved Pharm. However, recently, complications from Parkinson's and congestive heart failure caught up with him. Rodney passed away in the Comfort Care facility at Meridian Park Hospital. Although Rodney lived alone most of his life, family made sure he did not spend his final days alone. Rodney is survived by his three siblings, Carol Carter, Jim Bernklau, and Dave Bernklau, along with other family and friends. He will be missed...
