Dave was your consummate Extension Agent. He loved working with the farmers and growers. He was brilliant. He knew the science of ornamental and plant growth, health and production. Dave was practical. He knew how to relate and talk to his clientele and utilize the science to solve their problems.
A wonderful memory I have of Dave is working with our Christmas growers in the region back in the 80s on tree nutrition and color issues. It was well known to the growers that Extension had an Agent who was a real expert when it came to conifer nutrition and developing the best tree color. Dave's reputation preceeded him into fields. A very humble man, Dave was a true gift to our growers, to the community, and to mankind.
I also cherish the occasional visits from Dave as he was out and about the area and would stop into the Research Center just to say "Hi" and chat. We would cover everything from what was new at the Center to his international work, family, whatever.
My thoughts and prayers are with Dave and the family this morning.
