Obituary of Shirley Mae Thomas

A lifelong Lutheran, Shirley was born in North Dakota and raised in Oregon City from the age of 12. She graduated from Oregon City High School where she met the love of her life, Arnold Thomas. They married in 1949 and were together for nearly 70 years. They moved to Canby in 1965 where they raised their daughter Jan'l.

Shirley graduated from Portland State in 1973 and taught at Clackamas Community College until 1989. She also taught the Bethel Bible Series at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Gladstone. She was a current member of Zoar Lutheran and a 50+ year member of Willamette Valley Country Club.

She enjoyed cooking, reading, entertaining, travel, the Trailblazers, bridge, golf and time with family. Shirley was known for her beauty, being a hostess that saw to every detail, a true friend, a beloved mother & sister, "Bacca" to her grandchildren JanaMarie Fish (Ryan) and Mitch Earnshaw and "Great Bacca" to her great granddaughter Zoey Fish.

She is survived by her daughter Jan'l Earnshaw (Stan), her grandchildren, great granddaughter, sister Ellanore Woodford, sister-in-law Nancy Combs and 20 nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on March 25th at 1:00 pm at Zoar Lutheran Church in Canby, followed by a reception at Willamette Valley Country Club. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Zoar Lutheran Church.
