Obituary of Ann Marie Barrie
Ann Marie Barrie, 94, passed away peacefully October 30, 2022
Born September 5, 1928, in Bottineau, N.D. to Rudolph and Gustava Bjornstad the youngest of 4 children and raised in Lakota, N.D. She attended Grant High School in Portland her freshman year and graduated in 1946 from John H Francis Polytechnic High School in Los Angeles.
Ann met the love of her life, Richard Joseph Barrie, and they married June 1947 and lived in the suburbs of Los Angeles raising 3 children, Sandra, Russell, and Linda. In 1969 Ann, Richard, and Linda moved to Hubbard, OR.
Ann dedicated her life to her family and community. Her passion for service touched many organizations including Girl Scouts, North Marion Schools, City of Hubbard, American Legion Auxiliary and VA Portland Medical Center. Ann and Richard were honored as grand marshals of 1995 Aurora Colony Days and 2004 Hubbard Hop Festival Parades. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary most recently Post 150. She served Girls State for 25+ years as Director and Scholarship Chairman. She volunteered at VA Portland Medical Center for 35+ years. She served as the Director of the Christmas Gift Shop 20+ years and named 2006 State of Oregon American Legion Auxiliary and National VA Medical Centers Volunteer of the Year.
Ann was an active member of St. Agnes and St. Luke Catholic Churches from 1969 to 2006. In 2006 she became a parishioner of St Patrick’s in Canby. She was active in the Women’s Group and supporting the Youth Group.
Ann retired in 1998 from OHSU Hematology Lab.
Ann is survived by her children, Sandra Keating (Paul), Russell (Hazel), and Linda Azorr (Steven); 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years; 3 siblings; and 2 grandchildren.
Recitation of the Rosary Thursday, November 17, at 9:30 am followed by Funeral Mass 10:00 St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Canby reception following. Burial Willamette National Cemetery 1:30 followed by reception at American Legion Post #150.
