Ronald Hostetler

Obituary of Ronald Boone Hostetler

Ronald Boone Hostetler Ronald Boone Hostetler, age 79, fondly known as “Punky”, died peacefully on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Willamette Falls Hospital, following complications from a stroke. Ron was a hard worker, business owner, champion high school wrestler, proud father and grandfather, loving husband, loyal brother, friend to many, and above all, a man of deep faith.

Ron was born March 9,1944 in Vancouver, Washington, to Dan “Boone” and Florence Hostetler. As the oldest of five kids, he learned the value of hard work at an early age, picking berries, hoeing fields, and accompanying his father on farm tiling jobs. Graduating from Canby High School in 1962, he pursued his love of wrestling at the University of Oregon, later transferring to Portland State College, where he met his wife, Kathy Green. They married in Beaverton, Oregon, on June 21,1968. Ron served in the Army Reserves for six years while also working as a salesman for Standard Brands and Northwest Orient Airlines. He then joined the family farm tiling business, Molalla Clay Products. When the tile factory was sold in 1979, the business lived on as Hostetler Farm Tiling, with Ron doing what he loved: working with machinery and building relationships with farmers. During that time, he also started an evergreen nursery. His son, Bret, later became a partner in Hostetler Farm Tiling, and though Ron was semi-retired, it was hard to keep him away from the shop and out of the fields.

A faithful Catholic, Ron devoted much of his time to serving the St. Patrick's community. His volunteer work spanned various capacities, including two decades of service with the St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank, and frequent maintenance duties at the St. Patrick's Cemetery. When something needed to be done, Ron was there to help.

Ron was a humble man who led by example and enjoyed life’s simple pleasures: long walks through the meadow with his dogs, burying treasures with his grandkids, and cheering on his beloved Cougars, Ducks, and Vikings. He liked to have a good time, and loved a good adventure.

Ron is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathy; his sisters, Sue Hostetler and Summer Dell Fisher; his brother, Fritz Hostetler; children, Cortney Tamimi, Bret Hostetler, and Missy Strobel; their respective spouses, Ross Tamimi, Darci Hostetler, and Dan Strobel; grandchildren, Layla, Luke, Haven, Matthew, Bailey, Rayna, Dylan, Avery, Emma, and Tommy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan “Boone” and Florence Hostetler; and his sister, Joy “Hap” Hostetler.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 11:00 AM, preceded by a Rosary at 10:30 AM.
