Obituary of Robert Dean Reed
Robert “Bob” Dean Reed, 80, of Aurora, Oregon, passed away Friday October 27th, 2023 at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center in Tualatin, Oregon, surrounded by family. He was born in 1942 in Portland, Oregon.
Bob grew up in the North Bend area on the coast of Oregon where he graduated from North Bend High School. While in high school, he was active in many sports teams. Among the jobs he pursued in school was as a longshoreman, a position he maintained after school until he was drafted into the Vietnam War at the age of twenty.
Like many others in his family, Bob served proudly and shared a deep honor towards all those he stood by during those arduous times.
Upon returning after the war, Bob attended Portland State University where he received his Bachelor’s degree and most of his Master’s degree prior to becoming a business owner.
Bob enjoyed almost all outdoor activities, but was most fond of fishing, flying airplanes, camping, and watching sports. Bob’s love of animals was unmatched, as he and Mary took in dogs, cats, birds, and even a squirrel during his life. Both Bob, and his wife, Mary, owned planes and piloted them for over a decade. It was on one of these journeys, “The Oregon Trail Flight,” that Bob and Mary decided to tie the knot in front of family and a large group of fellow fliers in Independence, Missouri in 1993.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary, his brothers, Chuck, Bill, and Greg, daughters Diana, Monica, and Tammy, stepsons Richard and David, stepdaughters Betty (John) and Ginger, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many, many other friends and family members, and his beloved pups, Daisy and Lilly. He was preceded in death by his father, Dean “Merle” Reed, and his mother, Francis Reed.
Bob is remembered as a strong-willed man who primary concern in life was to protect and provide for his family.
Interment will be held on November 3rd at Fossil IOOF Cemetery in Fossil, Oregon, with a celebration of Bob’s life to be announced for this coming spring.
